If you are planning to do construction work in your home that will produce a lot of dust, do not forget about your HVAC system. The dust will get inside your air ducts and furnace and will recirculate back into your home. You will end up fighting a never-ending battle keeping your home clean.
To keep dust out of your HVAC system, it is best to turn off your furnace during construction, or at least during the dustiest part. You can also add a layer of protection to your system by installing filter media over the system’s return, the part of your HVAC system that takes air into your furnace. You can find filter media at most hardware stores and any HVAC supply company. However, if weather prevents you from turning off your furnace, have your air ducts and furnace cleaned professionally after the construction.
